Islamitische Observatorium Nederland

The Islamic Observatory Netherlands (ION), founded in 2013, is an observatorial astronomical organization focused on determining Islamic holidays, such as Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, through moon sighting observations and also play an important role in determing the yearly islamic calendar for the Dutch-Muslim community. On their Facebook page, they share updates and organize live blogs during these important days to inform the Dutch-muslim community about the crescent moon observations and the start of the holidays and the start- and end of the Islamic months.

In addition, ION has a YouTube channel where they upload videos related to Islamic holidays and moon sighting observations. For example, there are videos about the announcement of Eid al-Fitr and discussions on previous announcements of Eid al-Adha.

ION's goal is to provide transparency and accuracy in the process of determining Islamic calendar dates, which is important for many Muslims in the Netherlands when planning religious activities and celebrations.

The observatory plays a important role in promoting religious inclusion and understanding within Dutch society through its online presence and informative content.

Currently our website is under construction. But the facebookpage with 5500 followers and Youtube channel are active. We are currently planning to extend our socials to Instagram, Tiktok and X (Twitter).
